Professional Development Videos

Teaching Channel
Teaching Channel Teaching Channel is a video showcase—on the Internet and TV—of inspiring and effective teaching practices in America's schools. We have a rapidly growing community of more than 25,000 registered members who trade ideas and share inspiration from each other. With the help of the Tch community, our mission is to revolutionize how teachers learn, connect, and inspire each other to improve the outcomes for all K-12 students across America. In order to accomplish this mission, we have three simple goals, all of them reliant on input from teachers: build professional learning resources that teachers want, deepen and improve opportunities for teacher learning, and elevate and celebrate teachers in our society. Our videos are produced by a unique team of professionals—a collaborative effort between video production experts, education advisors, and the classroom teachers themselves. (Provided by BMGF)

Classroom Project or Resource Funding

DonorsChoose.org
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Here's how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. Then, donors can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires them. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.

LDC template tasks are fill-in-the-blank “shells” that allow teachers inserting the texts to be read, writing to be produced, and content to be addressed. When filled in, template tasks create high-quality student assignments that develop reading, writing, and thinking skills in the context of learning science, history, English, and other subjects. Template tasks are built off of the Common Core State Standards. (Provided by BMGF)

iCivics
iCivics Since 2008, iCivics has worked to create an innovative game-centered approach to civic education. Founded and led by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, iCivics provides students with the tools they need for active participation and democratic action, and teachers with the materials and support to achieve this. The curriculum is designed for middle and early high school, the years during which it is critically important that students become engaged – not necessarily in traditional civic action, but in understanding that their opinions, ideas, and intelligence matter in public spheres. iCivics games place students in different civic roles and give them agency to address real-world problems and issues. iCivics games are integrated with other curricular materials and rooted in clear learning objectives. The games, lesson plans, and web quests that make up the curriculum are grouped into topical units, but also can be used independently, providing educators with maximum flexibility. As such, the iCivics curriculum works in real classrooms: it is easy to use, engaging, and aligned to state standards, and Common Core in Literacy for History/Social Studies. (Provided by BMGF)

UDL Guidelines
UDL Guidelines: National Cener on Universal Design for Learning The UDL Guidelines are organized according to the three main principles of UDL that address representation, expression, and engagement. For each of these areas, specific "Checkpoints" for options are highlighted, followed by examples of practical suggestions. Like UDL itself, these Guidelines are flexible and should be mixed and matched into the curriculum as appropriate. The UDL Guidelines are not meant to be a "prescription" but a set of strategies that can be employed to overcome the barriers inherent in most existing curricula. They may serve as the basis for building in the options and the flexibility that are necessary to maximize learning opportunities for all students. Educators may find that they are already incorporating many of these guidelines into their practice.

CSAP/TCAP Materials

CSAP/TCAP Released Items, Rubrics and Item Analysis

  • 2010 CSAP Released Items - The state released new CSAP items from the last several years in reading and writing. The items clearly show how points are awarded for each anchor response and this is very useful information for all teachers and learners to know. It will help set academic expectations as well as helping learners acquire solid test-taking strategies. When these items are used in conjunction with the Learning Targets and assessment frameworks teachers have a powerful guide for providing appropriate instruction.
